Day 4

Disappointing Morning

DNR van used to transport #303

The cranes took off this morning in calm, cool conditions with patchy ground fog. Dan was already at the half-way mark with #303, ready to help any drop-outs, when the ultralights and birds had to come back down in Sauk County. That deceiving calm at the ground had vanished at flying altitudes, where the wind was 5 - 7 mph from the south. The trashy conditions made it too hard to migrate. What a disappointment!
