Day 26

Fog and Wind: No Go
Heavy localized fog this morning delayed any type of departure until 9:00 a.m. Once the fog cleared, two trikes went up to test the conditions. They got bounced around at altitudes above 350 ft, and the closer they got to the high ridge to the south, the worse it became. On site in Cumberland County, TN with the team, Heather Ray said, "It would be tough getting the birds to climb to the altitude necessary to climb the ridge in this type of rough air, so it was decided to stand down and hope for better conditions tomorrow."

Try This! Journaling Question
  • One year ago today, the "dress rehearsal" for this migration experiment ended successfully when the non-endangered sandhill cranes and ultralights reached Florida. Read about Operation Migration 2000 and list some ways that migration was similar and different from this one.
