About Observation Post #16
Kodiak Island, Alaska

People on scenic Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska are privileged to have nearly all of the Eastern Pacific Gray Whale population pass by on their journey north. Many grays remain around until the time comes to migrate south again. The first returning adult males can arrive in mid to late March. Mother-calf pairs normally return in mid-May and keep coming into July. Kodiak holds a Whale Fest to celebrate the whales' return each spring. Kodiak 4th graders are among our official reporters. >>
