Blowing
in the Wind
Can you think
of any reasons why water surface conditions might make a difference when
scientists are counting manatees? Think about which of your senses you
might use to count manatees.
Then, see
for yourself by looking at these two photographs of the same location
when the water surface conditions are different. Where are the manatees?
Journaling/Discussion
Questions
- Which
photo shows the best conditions for viewing manatees? Why?
- What
can you tell from looking at the photos about why the water surface
condition is different? What causes it to be different, and how can
you tell. Are there any clues in the objects surrounding the water that
tell you what is changing the surface conditions?
- If you
couldn't see manatees in the photos, are there any other clues that
tell you what region or state the photos were taken in?
