Will weather be the BIG story this spring? How’s YOUR weather? And the award for the FIRST tulips of the year 2006 goes to... Now whose do you think will be the first tulips to bloom? Stay tuned... Predicting the Greening of Spring We can explore seasonal change by watching plant growth in our own gardens — and in gardens across the hemisphere. What kind of patterns will we see as the wave of spring progresses? Predict where tulips will emerge first to last. Then track the wave of spring as gardeners across the Northern Hemisphere report in.

To respond to this question, please follow these instructions. Snow: Nature’s Mulch Does a cold blanket of snow make much temperature difference for a tulip? What happens if emerging tulips get snowed on? YOU solve the mystery! Look for clues in these experiments done by Journey North students. Then, this winter, try setting up your own temperature experiment. What? No snow? If spring is coming too fast in your town you can try placing up to 6” of mulch on your still-frozen tulip bed.
