We discussed at great length the pros and cons of journey north gardens
watering their gardens. We had a split between our students. Half of the
children thought it was terrible that the children in Texas put so much
time into their experiment and for the second year the tulips will die.
They thought that, so it was fair, everyone should water their gardens.
The other half believed that if this was truly a scientific experiment, we
should let nature take its course. If the students in Texas have had these
problems two years in a row, then maybe they should not be a part of this
aspect of Journey North. If this is a scientific experiment, and it is
decided that watering the plants should occur, then everyone would have to
water at the same time everyday with the same amount of water. This would
be quite an undertaking.
In addition, our classes decided that it would be ok to pick the weeds in
our gardens, but fertilizing would be difficult to keep track of. Some
classes may use too much fertilizer and others may not use enough.
Please let us know what is decided about this issue.
