We predict the first gray whale will be sighted near Kodiak on March 27.
First we figured out how many miles from Palos Verde Peninsula to Kodiak
by using a map scale. This was 2310 miles. Then we multiplied how fast
they were traveling (4 mph) by the number of hours in a day (24 hours)
to get 96. We divided 2310 by 96 and got approximately 24. The
quotient 24 represents the amount of days they traveled. So we figured
if the turnaround date was March 3rd and it takes 24 days to make the
trip, they would arrive on March 27th.
