for one thing they are all small enought that the hummer can hold them in
its mouth. another reason is because these things are soft so that when the
eggs are layed the dont get broke. another reason is for when the babies
hatch the nest isnt hard and wont kill the babies. the probably use these
for camoflague too if the hummers use lichens the will be well camoflagued
in a tree. this will allow protection for the babies. they use these
things to make other animals think the nest is just part of the tree. when
u look at a hummer nest you think its part of the tree but its not.
