Whales from all over the North Atlantic, from the Gulf of
St. Lawrence, Greenland, Iceland, and Norway come to the Caribbean
calving and breeding grounds, because the breeding grounds are filled
with rich nutrients and fish. Instinctively, the whales go to the same
breeding grounds as their parents. In the summer, the whales migrate
back to their old locations. The whales separate, because their newborn
calves need a lot of food to maintain good health. The male whales
separate from the females. It would be too crowed and would be diffucult
to get food if the whales were to stay together.
