The monarch spotted in Gloucester, Va. may have come from his overwintering site in Florida - however, my husband bought me a scarlet milkweed plant in florida about a month ago. He didn't realize it had 4 monarch eggs on it , so i raised them in my kindergarten classroom. 4 emerged - 1 had a broken wing, 1 got lost, 1 injured his wing in the net, but 1 I finally released on Easter Sunday- I couldn't see keeping it in a net since the weather was so warm and the others had died. I hesitated because i didn't want to throw off the monarch sightings and data but thought i'd let somebody know - the monarch sighted in gloucester, va. may have been the one i released on easter sunday - April 15 . When was it spotted?
