No i believe it wasn't because the weather is warm already and would already be back. I believe that some of them could have been lost on the way and found another warm place. Or that Mexico could have been full of butterflies and the resources all could have been gone. If this is the reasoning they would have had to find another place to live. So what they could have done is find another place to live where their are resources and warm all year around.
