From Fall Bulbs To Spring Blooms
Tulips are blooming throughout the US and more are emerging in Canada. Remember to report your observations!
Tulips Emerging
Tulip Test Gardens in Canada and Alaska are just starting to emerge. Spring takes a little longer to kick into gear farther north.
Denis in St-Constant, QC: "These pretty tulips will bloom soon." (04/18/2021)
Sharon in Edmonton, AB: "We finally have 4 tulips poking through after planting 2 dozen bulbs. We had a mild and dry fall. Winter was mild until early February when we had 3 weeks of very cold temperatures. March was mild again, but very little moisture. It was one of the driest winters on record in Alberta. Temperatures are still going below freezing overnight so it has taken the frost a long time to come out of the ground." (04/18/2021)
Alysia in Wasilla, AK: "On a balmy 64-degree sunny Monday, we spotted our first tulip leaves poking out of the dirt. We planted in several locations to compare. These first bulbs came up on the south side of the school, near the building. We expect that it will be awhile before we see the bulbs that were planted further away from the building sprouting. (There is still snow melting near that area)." (04/19/2021)
Tulips Blooming
Despite chilly weather, students in Minnesota are reporting blooming tulips. And in New Mexico, students are observing bulbs planted in the fall come to life!
Amy in Minnetonka, MN: "Our red and yellow tulips bloomed even when it has been cold in Minnesota!" (04/15/2021)
Alfreda in Tohatchi, NM: In New Mexico, blooming tulips were noted by "Jewel, a 2nd grader from Tse'ii'ahi' Community School." (04/19/2021)
