There Metabolism is very low so they make efficient use of food energy ,
burning far fewer calories per day per pound of body weight that humans
do. The blubber layer is 5 or 6 inches thirick to provides insulation
against the freezing water. Blubber stores food so whales can eat huge
amounts of food when food is abundant, and then survive when and where
    food is scarce.
