One ton equals one thousand kilograms. Rice and Wolman said that that a gray whale burned 19 kilocalories per kilogram of body weight each day. That would mean that a 40 ton grey whale would weight 40,000 kilograms. I then multiplied by 19 to get have many kilocaloreis a gray whales loses in one day. The answer is 720,000 kilocalories are burned by a whale each day. That's a lot of kilocalories. Jack Nguyen from Challenger Middle School.
