The following answers are from 5th graders at St. John s Episcopal Day School in Tampa.
Callie:
I think they capture them by putting warm water, which attracts them. After that they put them in a tank. The TECO power plant would be a good site because it puts out warm water into the regular water. They would probably use warm water jets to attract the manatees and put out the warm water. I think that it would take 4 to 5 people to do this job.
Matthew:
They could use a net and come under the manatee. It would take eight people I think. A good capture sight would be near a sandbar.
Caroline
I think that they should use lettuce and lure it to captivity. They could use a fishing pole or rope to do this. It would take one or two people for this job. A good capture site would be a place with shallow and warm water.
Lauren:
This is what Lowry Park Zoo told me: scientists capture a manatee by carting nets. They have eight people in a boat. They pull them out with a sling and pull them to shallow water by shore.
