Challenge Question #2
"People burn more energy in cold temperatures, trying to keep warm. Can you explain why monarchs burn less energy in cold temperatures?"

Our second grade students believe that Monarchs move less in the winter
because their bodies slow down. (Gaby)

The butterflies' bodies might slow down like an animal's body when they go into hibernation. (Billy)

The butterflies don't look for food during the winter so they are less
active. They live off stored fat. (Leah and Christa)

There isn't any food for them to eat during the winter so they try not to use much energy. (Mackenzie)
