More Gardens for the Millennium
Another 128 Journey North Gardens have been planted! After adding today's data to
your map you'll have a grand total of 161 gardens. (If you've planted your garden
but haven't reported it yet, please do so right away so we can include you in the
study. You'll find today's data below)
"We planted 2000 bulbs in celebration of the Millennium. We planted over
1300 hundred Red Emperor tulip bulbs. Plus we planted another 700 of mixed tulips."
Munn's Public School in Oakville, ON (43.45 N,-79.68 W) (donna_hamilton@chat.haltonbe.on.ca)
"Greetings from Wormit Primary School in Newport-on-Tay, Scotland! (56.40 N,-3.00
W) We planted our Journey North Garden today the 27th October, 1999. We have planted
our tulips in our school grounds. We are hoping for a mild winter and are looking
forward to recording the growth of our tulips. We are very excited to take part in
this kind of study. Yours aye, Mrs Wright and the pupils of Primary 7 in Newport-on-Tay
Scotland. (lm@st-andrews.ac.uk)
"Greetings Journey North tulip classes! The 1st Madoc Cubs in Madoc, ON (44.50
N,-77.46 W) were out and about creating a beautiful Millennium garden for the senior
citizens who live at the Madoc Manor. We planted 75 Journey North tulips in the front
garden. We were very careful to plant at the right depth. We covered the ground with
some maple leaves from the lawn and then we put a chicken wire fence over top of
the garden to keep the hungry squirrels away from our bulbs. Our friends in the Manor
will help us to watch for the tulips to bloom in the spring!" St. Peters in
Madoc, ON (conroys@kos.net)
"Our class in Rockport, ME (44.18 N,-69.10 W) planted our bulbs. It was fun
analyzing different planting sites using the rubric provided by Journey North. We
planted 26 bulbs in a bed outside the front of our school building. We also decorated
our folders with prints using our dissected bulbs. After planting, we patted the
soil firmly, gathered our tools, some of us said, 'Good night! Sleep tight! See you
in the year 2000!'" Grades 3 and 4, Rockport Elementary in Rockport, ME (d_seymour@fivetowns.net)

in southern states (Zones 8-11) to remember to report now the gardens you'll plant
in January 2000:
"We will be planting our tulip garden on January 4, 2000. The students are
looking forward to planting our tulips." Fourth Graders at Greystone Elementary
in Birmingham, AL (mmackay@hoover.k12.al.us)

planted (from the earliest date to the most recent date), how would you describe
