Getting Rained On
In torrential rain, it can be hard for hummers to fly about. They can do just fine, however, if they find a reasonably sheltered spot a close flight from a reasonably sheltered feeder. During the night, this wet little hummer was likely on the sheltered side of a tree with protective branches over her. That would keep most of the rain from falling directly on her. She could tuck her head in and sleep, trusting in her feathers' waterproofing to keep her skin dry and her internal temperature where it needed to be.

"Although it is barely 50 degrees here after heavy cold rains all through the night, this little one came to a feeder at 8:40 this morning. Looking a bit wet and cold, s/he drank for a long time— and then came back for more."
