Take a look at this pollinator-friendly front yard and imagine what this observer experienced when migrating hummers stopped to rest and refuel.

"At least 25 (maybe as many as 40) hummers were buzzing around my one acre wildflower field this evening. It went on for at least an hour. We've had a week of cool weather but today it was in the 80's, with high humidity and winds SSW at 13mph. The hummers weren't out there during the day. I first saw them at 5:45 pm. I really didn't pay them any mind because I thought they were dragonflies, which is a common occurrence. But when I sat down to watch, I thought — those are some big dragonflies. I went out to the field and discovered they were all hummingbirds! It looked like something out of a Hitchcock movie! The hummers stayed all through dinner. After an hour we went inside and they were still there. No birds visited the feeder when this was going on. I've never had more than 5 hummers at one time, so this was crazy — never seen anything like it!"
