Black-Chinned
True to their name, black-chinned males have a velvety black chin which stands out against the irridescent purple band beneath. This hummingbird's range includes western states, and north into British Columbia.

"I thought it was a male ruby-throat, because the throat was black. I figured the sun wasn't hitting his throat right, so it looked black. Then I took a picture of it and saw it was a black-chinned with that purple band on its throat."
