Males Rule
Hummingbird males must work to find and defend a territory for themselves. They arrive first, and then perform acts of flashy aggression. Their flamboyant behavior is meant to attract females and at the same time keep away other males. While they mate with several females each season, they take no part in activities related to nesting or raising the young.
