Introducing Mystery Class #1

Sapporo, Japan
43.033 N, 141.21 E

Hello!! We are the home of the Huskies,
Hokkaido International School in Sapporo, Japan.

We are a class in a very unique school located on the northernmost island of Japan. Our city is a city of about two million people, and our school has people from many different countries.

Our School

Our school is about 200 students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. Our class is the sophomore class, 10th grade with 13 students and it is all girls except for one boy.

A lot of us speak Japanese and all of us speak English since that is the language we learn in at HIS.

We are one of the smallest international schools in Japan,
but as you can see we have a beautiful school facility!

Our class as well as our school is like a big family. Some of us have gone to this school since pre-school! We have lots of extra curricular activities like basketball, volleyball and soccer. We also have an art club, and acting club and we are celebrating our 50th anniversary as a school in the fall!

Our City

Sapporo is a beautiful city located on on the northernmost island of Japan. That island is a large island known as Hokkaido, and Sapporo is located in the west central area. You can see our location on this map of Hokkaido.

Sapporo has a population of about 2 million people. As you can see in this photo below, we are a very modern city, and our night skyline is quite beautiful. (Can you find the "golden arches" of McDonalds in this photo?).

We also have many beautiful outdoor attractions such as Lake Toya and this famous statue on its shores. If you look carefully in this photo, you can see that powerboats and jet-skis are used on this lake.

Our climate here in Sapporo has four seasons. Spring begins in late March or early April and is celebrated with Cherry Blossom Festivals and our own Lilac Festival in May. Summer is warm, but not too warm. Many people visit during summer to escape the heat and humidity of the lower islands. Fall is bright with red and orange leaves. That is followed by very snowy winters where snow piles up until the windows on many first floors are covered! It is a great place to ski and snowshoe!!

A beautiful winter photo of the Tokeidai Clock Tower.

The building was constructed in 1878 as a drill hall of the Sapporo Agricultural College. The US made clock was added in 1881.

This structure has been designated an Important Cultural Property and now houses a small museum.

Our Country

Japan itself has about 127 Million people, and is slightly smaller in area than the state of California. It remains one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world, and one of the stronger economies as well.

Like some other nations, Japan's government is called a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary government. This means we have a monarch, Emperor Akihito , but we also have elected legislators and a Prime Minister too.

We are proud of our city and our school and if you ever get a chance to visit, please stop by! Congratulations on finding some mystery sites!!!
