How do people in Mexico honor the memory of their loved ones during Dia de los Muertos?

Photos, food, flowers, candles and dress are significant symbols of honor and traditional ways to remember and celebrate. In this photo, you can see the ofrenda, or shrine, that is set up to honor the life of the loved ones who have died. The people believe the souls of their ancestors return to visit on Dia de los Muertos. The favorite foods of the dead are prepared, marigold flowers are gathered, candles are lit, and time is taken to remember the person who is gone from this Earth.
