In a typical year, north winds blow monarchs to the Atlantic Coast and the butterflies avoid the ocean by traveling down the coastline. This year's persistent east winds have driven monarchs away from the Coast. Seaside Goldenrod is a critical nectar source for monarchs traveling along the Atlantic.
