Causing Southerly Winds

A corridor of southerly winds blew from the Central Plains as far north as southern Wisconsin and Michigan last Thursday, May 8th. The monarch sighted that day in southern Michigan likely moved into the region with those winds. The wind and warm air mass were drawn northward by the low pressure cell centered in the northern Great Plains. In conditions such as these, monarchs can migrate northward quickly from the source breeding regions in the south.
