Park Rapids, Minnesota
Yesterday, 6 new species of birds were observed just north
of town. Wood ducks, Goldeneyes, Hooded Mergansers, Blue bills
(Scaup) Retailed Hawks, and Am. Kestrel. I also had a student
tell me they saw sea gulls of some sort yesterday.

Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia
Today after two nights of well below freezing had a good run
of sap (for maple syrup) today. This will be the end of the
season and production was well below average based on records
for past 20 years.

White Bear Lake, Minnesota
Ice-out on Bald Eagle Lake. Strong SE winds broke up the ice
slamming it against the NW shore. It was "like the coast
of Maine!" Very early this year. Usually ice out is in
April.

Forsythias are blooming, quince and bradford pear is right
on its tail. Several wild shrubs have already leafed out.
