Where's His Tail?
Laura Erickson explains: "This robin did not lose its tail in a normal molt, which is apparent because robins lose their tail feathers individually during molt. And this is obviously not a baby robin just growing in its feathers for the first time. The only way an adult robin loses all its feathers at once is from a predator: a house cat, a hawk, or something similar. Often the feathers fall out simultaneously without tissue damage. Then they'll regrow new feathers within a few weeks."
