Guadalupe Victoria Elementary
Today, Journey North has just took off making the first school visits. We began at the "Guadalupe Victoria, Elementary", a School actually only a couple of kilometers at the most, from El Rosario Sanctuary.

Being the oldest school at El Rosario Community, Journey North was warmly welcomed by the children. It was break time, so they were absolutely taken away in their games, talking and playing different games, specially "Marbles", for children, and talking about this and that by girls while enjoying eating something for lunch.

Once it was announced to them that their Ambassador Butterflies from North-America and Canada had arrive to them they all shouted of joy and gathered together in a big classroom where the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades were addressed to attend Estela's visit with a brief message of conservation on the Habitat of Monarch Butterflies, this time refreshing their minds about the Life Cycle of Monarchs since the moment they leave after mating at the Sanctuaries in March. Due to previous visits to this school, most children could guess on their own about the stages of life development for Monarchs; Children were all the time astonished to hear that only us, in Central México, in our mountains, we have the biggest Sanctuaries in the world. They were amazed to hear from Estela, the conditions in which Monarchs live in the North during the Summer and Fall, are different. They thought Monarchs also gathered in Sanctuaries as it is with us!!!. From there the marvel of Monarchs overwintering in our forests every year!.

Children were immensely happy to have received their Northern counterparts' Ambassador butterflies with their letters and were delighted to be able to write in their letters of responses a Little bit from their identity, their favorite games, but also obligations at school and at home and about three very important actions contributing to Monarchs Habitat Conservation.

This is the oldest school at the community, created around the 1970’s, during the golden mining years in Angangueo, as a compensation to that community that a very important water source was supplied to the mining company and town in Angangueo, which continues to be nowadays so. The population of children in this community keeps as the highest in the region. This is a very high area, very cold as well. Most parents of these children, should be making a living from an activity, charge or task related to the peak season of Monarchs from December through March.
