Symbolic Monarchs in Mexico

Niños Héroes Elementary.
Arriving to the school. Children marvelled learning about Monarchs unknown aspects of life. The "Oooooh!" exclamation comes here and there in the classroom as they know about Monarchs' challenges of life. Like all other of her classmates, Sandra shows great enthusiasm participating doing and decorating her letter to her Northern counterpart.

The group photo was taken in parts, with children sitting at their different tables. Children showed their gifts received for the camera! Writing and decorating their letters for their American and Canadian counterparts. Enjoying their gifts!

In this school, the dining room for children is open! Three pesos a child will pay for a delicious and nourishing lunch!

At break time, schools who, under a Government Evaluation, wish to register themselves at a Nourishment Plan, run their own dining rooms supported by mothers of children themselves. Two pesos is the cost of a lunch really nutritious lunch, containing beans, rice, soja, potatoes, fruit, fruit-water, bread, etc. This as part of the Health Ministry in the country due to the worrying levels of diabetes, fatness, and other illnesses increasing in Mexican Childhood.

Sandra and her two best friends ramained enchanted at having had Journey North this year in her class. They drop Estela at the entrance of the school, and beg her to come back next season.

El Rosario Ejido --of which these families are a part--is indeed the biggest Ejido in our region. San Luis is a village inside this Ejido with as high population as El Rosario itself. Elementary school children find it not easy to understand the concept of Ejido under which they live. They only know their parents own land and forest and are highly proud of it!
