Ignacio López Rayón Elementary
Children recognize my faithful car, Rocinante, and open doors wide open for it to come in. All children run and shout to each other Journey North has arrived! While studying the life-cycle of Monarch Butterflies together, they make a lot of questions to Estela.

The students are very excited writing their letters as response to Canadian and American children, telling them a little bit about their friends, about the best of their school, what they love/are proud of in their families, and finally, the way they commit themselves to preserve monarchs habitat at their overwintering sites.

During break time you see them buying a snack and playing one of our very old, traditional Mexican games known as the "trompo."

Indeed this school (and the Telesecundaria, next level to elementary school), are the closest schools to El Rosario Sanctuary. Most families of these children own direct rights on Ejido. At the time of my visit, most of these children were awaiting for vacation time, since then the high tourism season starts at the Sanctuaries and they help their parents and grandparents indirectly organizing in the background -- and earn some money on their own.
