Rancho Escondido Tele-Secundaria
When these students received their letters they responded to them enthusiastically, feeling thrilled at the idea of exchanging with students from the regions in the US and Canada where the monarchs come from. The winter sanctuaries are in the mountains at their back, 2-3 km. from their classrooms up into the forest! The children loved to hear from Estela the hardships monarchs face to make such a complex migration.

When I arrived at the school, two students met me on the way and helped to carry the basket with the Ambassador Butterflies, the national flags of Mexico, the United States and Canada, and the books to be donated to the school. The Principal of the school and a few students came out from their classrooms to welcome Journey North and receive their books and games donated by Monarchs Across Georgia and Journey North.

It should be mentioned that teachers of all schools around the Sanctuaries are come from far away, especially from the nearest city to our region (Zitácuaro), around 30-40 km. to teach at these schools up at the Sanctuaries. Teachers drive their own cars. They get a really high esteem, recognition and respect from families all over. Teachers teach from 6-8 subjects to an only group (their group). Each group has an average of 25 students.
