Redención del Campesino Elementary
Every school I visit every day is so different. This is a school with very high population. At arriving here, children were very shy at the beginning. Once they started to listen to the talk about the importance of Conservation of Habitat of Monarchs, they silently start to keep quiet and to get more and more interested in what the message conveys this year. Estela shows panoramic photos of our mountains in the region showing the treasure we still preserve with our forests and the importance of them for our own survival.
Little by little the older ones start to refresh their minds asking Estela lost of questions. The younger ones keep eyes paralyzed and mouth open about knowing, for example about the distance Monarchs fly to reach our forests; One of the things they hardly believe is that Monarchs' main feeding stage is only when they are caterpillars, and that they only dring water and flowers nectar while they are overwintering with us. The way the metamorphosis occurs in the Puppa is something they listen to as if fiction!... Etc.
Once the moment to say good bye, comes, they keep walking behind Estela, taking her to the door, wanting to hold the flags and the basket with Ambassador butterflies with her, asking her if she could be their teacher.... Can you imagine my emotions everytime I leave each school???....
In the San Cristóbal Community, Ejido Ocamp, most of the families' living income comes from their fathers and brothers working at the construction industry at big cities and nearest towns. The message of habitat conservation clearly encourages them to preserve the monarch's forest, besides making the children proud to be part of their place in protecting the monarch's migration,
It should be remembered that in most schools, letters are delivered to students from 3rd—4th grades (8-9 years old) on, since children from lower grades are not able to write well yet, so letters would not be legible at all.
