Signs of Spring Everywhere

How to Participate
The great wave of spring is about to sweep across North America, and hundreds of sights and sounds will signal new life around you.

Report the Various Signs of Spring From Your Area to Journey North!

In addition to the 20 "official" signs of spring we will track through Journey North this year, we invite you to report the many various changes you observe as spring passes through your region. Which events should you report? For examples, visit the Spring, 1997 "Signs of Spring Everywhere" archive. (Simply click on the owl button from any page.)

Twice each month, Signs of Spring news updates will be posted. Each will include a feature story, as well as a map showing where you and others have observed spring's arrival. Watch for Signs of Spring updates on these days:

MONDAYS:
Feb. 2, 16, Mar. 2, 16, 30, Apr. 13, 27, May 11, and 25

Follow Spring's Journey North
Rather than track individual migrations, you may chose to follow the wave of spring itself. The lesson, "Phenology: Observing Seasonal Changes in Nature" suggests making a time line which extends from February to June, and on which local and global events are recorded.

Participate in the Spring Phenology Data Exchange
Collect signs of spring and exchange them with another class. Using Nature's clues, can you find your partner?
