Ice Out Observation Posts- 2001 Everyone was surprised at the early ice-out for the River Teno in Utsjoki, Finland on May 3, but what are your guesses for the remaining observation posts at Point Hope, AK and the Hudson Bay on Rankin Inlet, NT? From the Chukchi Sea in Point Hope, Alaska, teacher Sheila Gaquin wrote this update on May 1, 2001: "It was just 5 degrees here yesterday, and the wind has been blowing from the North for days. I'm afraid we won't have ice-out before school closes. (Our school closes on May 18th.) Barring an amazing warming spell, I think break up will happen long after school is out."
