Nice on the Ground, but Trashy Aloft
It's a nice day on the ground at Stopover #5, where the birds arrived yesterday. But when Joe went aloft to check conditions higher up, he found himself fighting a 12 to 14 mph headwind. That's too strong for the birds. They'd get exhausted and discouraged—and you know what happens then!

Meanwhile, three other special chicks in the new Eastern flock will soon be making their first migration. Older whoopers to teach them the way. Who are we talking about? See the photo above!

In the Classroom

  • Migration Geography and Math: See this map to answer: What's the next state the migration enters? How many miles must they fly to cross into the next state?
