Chick Chat: Still Two Groups

Migration is just three weeks away. How are the birds doing? "The oldest four are able to train for 45 minutes and the middle group for around 20, but the youngest birds aren't yet flying much more than a circuit or two," reports Liz at the main office of Operation Migration. A few days last week were too windy to fly, and one day pilot Richard wrote his name in the fog by flying his airplane! But training and progress continue on the good-weather days.

The 11 birds in cohorts two and three continue to get along and socialize well with no aggression problems. They won't fly yet as a single group because of the difference in flying abilities between the groups. A lot must happen in the next three weeks!

Journal: Joe’s Reply
Last week we asked a question about blending the 3 cohorts into one group. Why do you think the middle and youngest birds are joined together first, and the oldest birds added last? Now you can compare your ideas to those of Joe Duff, Operation Migration pilot and project leader.
