November 7, 2008: Migration Day 22

Crane #818 tried to peck out the eye of the puppet held by Operation Migration's Heather Ray during an evening roost check. What do you think #818 was thinking? Photo Operation Migration

The Green County Curse prevails. Yesterday began a new record for number of days delayed by weather in Green County. Today the wind is still against them, with snow in the forecast. So they're still waiting to make that flight to the first Illinois stopover. The weather has to change soon!

In the Classroom

  • Today's Journal Questions:
    (a) How is your favorite crane doing? How are the DAR chicks, released on October 18, doing? Our crane biography pages are updated with photos or stories when we get them, so check often and click on the photos: Class of 2008 Home Page.
  • (b-for-bonus) How do you think whoopers stay so dazzling white when they muck around in marshes and wet weather? You can watch a whooper take a bath! [Real Media Player URL: http://www.operationmigration.org/bath-time.rm] Also see our video viewing guide. It helps you know what to watch for.

Journey North is pleased to feature this educational adventure presented in cooperation with the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP).
