What's the story?

Heather Ray of Operation Migration says, "This is adult male #509 on September 16, 2009. He is outside the pen where the middle and youngest chicks now live together. Crane 509 camps out by the pen. All the chicks have just taken off on training flights with the ultralights. Do you see how 509 has dropped his wings? He is mournfully calling, calling. Why do you think he is drop-wing calling?"
