No Go. Still Stalled (+0 Miles)
January 1, 2010: Migration Day 70

It's New Year's Day and the cranes and planes are still stalled in Franklin County, Alabama. A cold front moved through during the night. The "migrants" awoke to a low cloud ceiling, blustery northwest winds, and the possibility of snow flurries. Pilot Joe Duff is still home in Canada with his family, and volunteer pilot Matt Ahrens will take Joe's place until he returns. What do you think their #1 New Year Resolution might be? What are YOU doing on this special holiday?

In the Classroom

  • January 1 was Migration Day 70 for the Class of 2007, Migration Day 66 for the Class of 2008, and Migration day 70 for the Class of 2009. This is the third time for the migration to last through December and go into the new year. Why do you think the ultralight-led migrations have lasted longer with each passing year? Consider the big topics of environmental concern as you put together your thoughts.

Journey North is pleased to feature this educational adventure presented in cooperation with the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP).
