GO CRANES! The pilots and birds got airborne! With good winds helping them along, They skipped right over Walker County and continued to Chilton County, Alabama — for another 111 miles of progress. They've now come 813 miles total. And here's more good news: tomorrow looks favorable for flying. Lowndes County, here they come!

In the Classroom

  • (a) It was so cold this morning that frost formed on the wings as soon as the trikes were out of the hangar. What is frost? Why is it a problem? Our new photo story helps you find the answers.
  • (b-for-bonus) Today's flight was the third attempt to leave Franklin County, Alabama. Why do you think the team doesn't crate the birds and transport them when delays get so long? Think first , then see what pilot Joe Duff says.

Journey North is pleased to feature this educational adventure presented in cooperation with the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP).
