Another double leg! Are you jumping for joy? GO CRANES! Richard launched at 7:35 this morning and all 20 birds rose to follow — all the way into Georgia and the second and final stop in that state! They are closing in on the finish line and the team will be bustling in preparation. (See our questions, below.) We'll be back later today with more details about today's approximately 116-mile flight. They have now reached 1,039 miles gone!

  • (a) If good flying conditions continue, on what day could they cross into Florida? What happens at the first Florida stopover? (TIP: See Data.)
  • (b-for-bonus) Click on Data to see that they'll soon reach the staging area (migration gathering area) in Jefferson County, FL. This is where the team will split the Class of 2009 into two groups of ten birds each. Why? Think about the number of birds now in the Eastern flock.
