October 25, 2009: Migration Day 10

All 20 chicks are waiting for the rain and drizzle to stop so Stopover #1 can dry out!

Operation Migration

Today the drizzle continues; no flying! The cranes' travel pen was all dry when the team set it up. Then the record rainfall of the last few days turned it into a wet pen. This delights the Class of 2009 because cranes love to stand in water. But all the rain created problems besides delaying departure. Much of the Stopover#1 area is a very soggy bog. The grass strip that is the ultralights' runway is underwater.

Even the ground that is not underwater is so saturated that Joe, Heather, and Chris couldn't get the camera trailer into position. (We likely won't be able to see CraneCam views from this location.)
