Before sunrise today, the calm air changed as a cold front moved through and sent winds out of the WNW. Blowing at 6 mph on the surface and 25 mph aloft, they set the leaves to rustling. Yesterday's jumping-for-joy excitment over a great flight with (NO crates needed!) will not happen today. But the cranes are happy pecking and poking at pumpkin parts. How are winds and weather central to the migration? Will the weather where you live today affect your choice of activities?

Approximately how fast did they fly to cover the distance?
  • Record Keeping: On yesterday's flght, what happened for the first time that was very hopeful? On this down day, you may wish to add a note to your Migration Comparison Chart or update your chart of miles flown.
