November 17, 2009: Migration Day 33

What is this?
Photo Heather Ray, Operation Migration

Winds blowing at 20 mph out of the ENE are grounding the team for the second day in LaSalle County, Illinios. Meanwhile, pilot Chris has been busy. Do you remember what happened to him last week when the team tried to reach this Stopover but had to turn back? (See and hear Joe tell what happened.) Chris's engine failed during the flight. He made an amazing emergency landing without engine power! Luckily Chris is fine and his trike now has a new engine. We'll have more about this later, but for now, see this page and think about what an ultralight pilot might need in an emergency.

CraneCam is LIVE each day from 6:30 to 10:00 a.m. and again from 3:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon, just before sunset. The TrikeCam will be LIVE during flights!

In the Classroom

  • (a) Mischief is part of the day when the crane kids are in the pen? Check out the Nov. 16 story on 927's bio page. What was he doing, and why do you think he did it?
  • (b-for-bonus) From the list in the photo above, choose 5 items that you consider most valuable. Imagine yourself in a situation where you need the items. Describe the situation and how you use the survival items. Share stories among friends. More.

Journey North is pleased to feature this educational adventure presented in cooperation with the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP).
