November 13, 2010: Migration Day 35

A picture (or map) is worth a thousand words. It's down-day eight in Piatt County, Illinois. The team and birds are almost directly under the center of a low pressure system. Liz reports they are feeling the effects of 15 mph ground wind. "Aloft the winds are showing 30-40 mph, and just to the south of us near the Illinois-Kentucky border, they are blowing 40-50 mph." She announced the team's new nickname for this state: Ill-windi-nois! Since the wind has the team grounded anyway, they are cheering for the arrival of the rain so needed and hoped for by the farmers here.

A Contest! You can help the team win a grant for $25,000 to continue helping the cranes! Visit the Pepsi Refresh Challenge website to vote for Operation Migration today. You can vote every day until Dec. 31.
