Headwinds Halt Progress (+O Miles)
November 28, 2010: Migration Day 50

Photo Operation Migration

No miles today. The test flight this frosty morning ended in a "no fly" decision by Richard, today's lead pilot. Headwinds at flight altitude allowed only about 21 mph ground speed, which means nearly 3 hours of flying to reach the next stop. The hilly and forested landscape offers few places to land if a bird gets tired and drops out. It's better to be safe than sorry, decided the pilots. Will Richard get his takeoff tomorrow? Fingers crossed!
