December 13, 2010: Migration Day 65

Photo Operation Migration
"Will we finally be home tomorrow?"

So close! But gusty winds continue, so neither group of birds will take off today. They are hunkered for Down Day #2: The St. Marks five are in Jefferson County and the Chass five in Gilchrist County, FL. Learn more about how the Class of 2010 was divided in today's lesson: Who Goes Where? Dividing the Flock. Where is YOUR favorite crane going? Find out on your crane's bio page.

Heads Up: The NEXT flight for both groups will be their separate Arrival Flyover Event and welcome celebration as they complete this migration! (See directions to both celebrations here.)

In the Classroom: Journal or Discussion

(a) Why do you think the birds were divided into two groups going two winter homes? What factors does the team think about when dividing the birds? Give it some thought, then check Who Goes Where? Dividing the Flock.

(b-for-bonus) When your teacher assigns seats or groups in your classroom, how do you think those choices are made?

Journey North is pleased to feature this educational adventure presented in cooperation with the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP).
