All the way along the migration route south to where the planes and cranes will cross the border into Kentucky, every one of Operation Migration's Illinois stopover over locations is under a high wind advisory today. Winds aloft are blowing a ferocious 50 to 80 mph, reports Liz from camp. See more weather maps on Journey North's Climate and Weather Maps page, updated daily. It's the 9th no-fly day in a row. Eleven down-days in a row is the most they've had, once in 2008 and once in 2010. Are we approaching a new record? But here's something good:
Operation Migration PRESENTATION TONIGHT!
Local residents of Fairbury, Pontiac, and places nearby are invited to a presentation by Joe Duff at 6:30 p.m. TONIGHT (Sunday evening) at the McDowell Methodist Church basement. Enjoy coffee, cider, apples and cookies, as well as Joe's great photos, amazing video clips, and fasciinating migration stories. The McDowell Methodist Church is about half way between Fairbury and Pontiac, just past the corner of 1400 N Road and 1800 E Road. (Rt. 24 west of Fairbury to 1800 E. Rd; N on 1800 E Rd. to 1400 N. Rd. East on 1400 N. Rd few hundred yards to McDowell Methodist Church.) Come and learn about all the work that goes into reintroducing Whooping cranes into Eastern North America, and the cranes that will migrate through your area each spring and fall!
