No Go: But They Really Tried (+0 Miles)
November 23, 2011: Migration Day 46

Two pilots wait in the hangar for the test trike pilot to return with a verdict.

The morning began with a fog delay and a few test flights with waits between. Alas, the window of good flight conditions didn't happen. The wind came up and carried the haze southward along their intended flight path. By then, the air was too bumpy for a safe flight. Pilot Joe Duff did a final takeoff and surprised waiting craniacs by landing right on the country road at the flyover site to deliver the news after their long wait: "You can't say we didn't try." Tomorrow?

In the Classroom: Journal or Discussion

(a) What is fog? Why can big jets fly in fog but ultralight planes leading cranes cannot?
(b-for-bonus: Migration Math) Go to the News page and add up the total mileage flown so far. Then calculate the average number of miles (a) per flight, and (b) per day of this migration so far. What would have to happen in order for the average miles per day to increase? Decrease?
