Alas, the window of good flight conditions didn't happen. The wind came up and carried the haze southward along their intended flight path. By then, the air was too bumpy for a safe flight. Pilot Joe Duff did a final takeoff and surprised waiting craniacs by landing right on the country road at the flyover site to deliver the news after their long wait: "You can't say we didn't try." What would have to happen in order for the average miles per day to increase?
