Hello, KENTUCKY (+45 Miles)
December 2, 2011: Migration Day 55

Crane in flight

Image: Operation Migration

The winds were favorable and they made it to Union County, Kentucky! If you remember yesterday's problem that prevented success at takeoff, you won't be surprised to hear that the team had four swamp monsters and a kayak to deter the birds from that same soggy field. It worked! Richard and Brooke both had birds on today's flight, and Joe flew chase with no rescues needed. Go Cranes!!!

Teachers: If your school is within 30 or 40 miles of the migration route, you are invited to contact educators and Operation Migration volunteers Gordon and Christine to ask about a classroom visit.

In the Classroom: Journal or Discussion

(a) How far have they come on this migration now? TIP: See Data page or Daily News list.

(b for Bonus) Read Caleb's story of the capture of #12-11 on Nov. 30th. What evidence of teamwork do you hear? What were some decisions he faced? What would you have done? What do you learn about Caleb from reading his story?

Journey North is pleased to feature this educational adventure presented in cooperation with the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP).
